Chalk Talk - Indie Band

Co-Founder, Lead Singer/Guitarist, Songwriter
July 2017 - Present

Chalk Talk is an all-female indie rock band based in Los Angeles and New York. We all met in high school in San Diego, CA, and have been making music and music videos since, and independently touring nationally consistently for the past couple years. After winning Battle of the Bands our senior year of high school (2019), we were able to work with a Grammy Award winning producer and begin our recording journey. Being an independent band, we book shows, conduct outreach/marketing, and self-manage our social media.

We have released multiple singles and two LPs. Select songs have been featured on Spotify playlists such as Fresh Finds and Fresh Finds Indie, and we are hoping to keep spreading our music. Additionally, our songs have been played on various radio stations, including an episode of WHOOOSH! Radio on SiriusXM, hosted by Duran Duran’s Simon Le Bon. Our top song has over 230k streams on Spotify. We played SXSW 2024!

The Kids Don’t Stand A Chance: Community Market/Zine Release at In Sheep’s Clothing

Music Consultant/Vinyl DJ
October 2022 - January 2023
The Kids Don’t Stand A Chance is an event that happened in late January at In Sheep’s Clothing Records in Los Angeles. It was inspired by the youth culture that surrounded the 2000s indie rock music scenes, and incorporated themes of cyclical music trends and analog music.

As someone passionate and knowledgeable about music, I assisted the editor-in-chief on musical knowledge: cultural and historical. This knowledge helped event coordination and planning, as well as keeping the event relevant with the theme of cyclical trends. I also curated a vinyl DJ set and performed it at the event.

Echoes - DJ Chain Mail:
Youth culture today is the 2020s doing the 2000s, which is the 2000s doing the 1980s, and so on. My set examines the cyclical nature of trends, and how people look to the previous generations for inspiration. The music oscillates between early contemporary music (Talking Heads, Strawberry Switchblade) and more modern indie and popular music (Pinback, Daft Punk, Timbaland), while also remaining true to the time period this event is based around, the 2000s New York DIY indie rock scene (Yeah Yeah Yeahs). Additionally, it focuses on the holistic scope of music for youth culture, whether that be indie love songs over time, songs that are overplayed on the radio, or songs to dance to in the club while you take a selfie on your Nokia. Spotlighted in my set is LCD Soundsystem, a band inspired by dance music and electronica in an era where technology and the Internet started to play an essential role in artistic practice and community. Ultimately, my set observes the shape shifting entity of music as it interacts with developing technologies and generations.
